Our story began when Rev. Thomas Newton Dickinson opened his first distillery bottling witch hazel and setting the standard for witch hazel production.
Born and raised in New England, Dickinson understood the healing properties of this potent plant, which was used by Native Americans as early as the 17th Century. He developed a proprietary process that is still the cornerstone of how we produce our products today.
We use sustainable harvest practices to gather USDA certified organic New England witch hazel during cold winter months – when the dormant plants have no leaves, yet are in peak bloom – because that’s when it provides the most potent extracts. This also helps limit any environmental impact as the ground is frozen.
We then steam-distill the bark and twigs – the only USP-approved method for creating clinical grade witch hazel – removing any impurities, including potential skin-harming tannins, to bring our unsurpassed quality of products to homes around the world.

* The USP (United States Pharmacopeia) is the organization that sets the standards of strength and purity for FDA-approved active natural ingredients and drug products. For witch hazel to meet these standards, it must be produced according to stringent independent guidelines which include harvesting only twigs and bark, never leaves, and distilling to remove impurities, such as tannins.
